TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The Thruway Authority is posting “Drive
Safely, Stay Sober” messages on their variable signs along the superhighway
and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is handing out red ribbons at
select toll plazas including Newburgh exit17 to promote awareness about
the dangers of driving while intoxicated.

“The holidays are a tremendously busy time with motorists hitting
the road to visit their friends and loved ones. It is vital that we highlight
MADD’s message about the dangers of drunk and impaired driving,”
said Acting Thruway Executive Director Bill Finch.

“Drunk and impaired driving is a choice that needlessly kills hundreds
and injures thousands in our state each year,” said State Police
Superintendent George Beach II. “If your holiday celebrations include
drinking, plan ahead to make certain that you have a safe ride home.”

The foot-long red ribbons handed out to motorists this week have been
the symbol of the group’s public awareness project since 1986.
