ALBANY – A total of 66 percent of those people with disabilities who were surveyed after the presidential election supported Democrat Hillary Clinton, according to a just-released survey by the New York State Independent Living Council.
The Newburgh-based Independent Living Center is a member of the state council.
The greatest concerns among those with disabilities when choosing a presidential candidate followed Democratic Party principles, said Brad Williams, executive director of the state council.
“Healthcare costs and medications; human and civil rights; affordable and accessible housing; addressing poverty, homeless and hunger; and support for various groups and issues like disability, LGBTQ, minority, veterans and women,” Williams said. “Currently the Democratic Party is the party that addresses these issues.”
Employment, lack of accommodations for the disabled by Uber, and wages
for attendants were among the issues not addressed by the candidates,
according to those who took the survey.
