RAMAPO – Two drivers involved in September accident in which a 17-year-old youth was killed and another was seriously injured, were issued summonses for unsafe lane change and other infractions following an investigation by Ramapo Town Police.
It was just before midnight on September 8 when two cars were traveling on Route 202 in toward the Town of Haverstraw when one driver, Tzvi Hakakian, 19, of Monsey, was slowing down to possibly turn left into a driveway. The other driver, Jonathan Mosquera, 24, of Suffern, attempted to pass him on the left side. The vehicles sideswiped one another.
Hakakian’s vehicle continued going straight while Mosquera’s car veered left, crossed lanes and struck the two pedestrians. Marcos Tawil, 17, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
Following an almost four-month investigation, police said there was no evidence to indicate that drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor with each driver.
Mosquera was issued four summonses – speed in zone, speed not reasonable and prudent, moving from a lane unsafely, and improper passing.
Hakakian was issued two summonses – moving from a lane unsafely and improper left turn on two-way roadway.
