Martinkovic: “Some things
came together …”

MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Emergency Services Commissioner Richard Martinkovic is hanging up the towel in a matter of days as he retires from the post he has held for the past 11 years.
The county legislature voted during a special meeting on Monday to name John Hauschild to replace him. Hauschild has been coordinator of the county Emergency Services Training Center.
Martinkovic, who is a former Liberty town councilman and town supervisor,
said he was waiting for the $10.2 million communications tower project
to be completed.
“I was waiting for the end of this radio project,” he said.
“I was telling most of my friends that 2017 I would like to retire.
Some things came together that made it advantageous for me to do that.”
Martinkovic led the effort to install new emergency communications towers across the county for more comprehensive coverage and to allow interoperability among agencies.
