KINGSTON –The 2017 Ulster County budget is now in place as County
Executive Michael Hein signed the $325 million spending plan into law.

The document, approved by the county legislature earlier this month virtually
intact from Hein’s executive budget, reduces property taxes for
the third year in a row and lowers the tax levy to its lowest level since
2009.

The budget cuts county spending by $5.4 million while protecting essential
services.

It continues Hein’s “Building a Better Ulster County”
infrastructure investment program with an additional $15 million in funding,
for a three-year total of $46 million.

The budget also includes $7.2 million in relief for the county’s
towns and City of Kingston through the county takeover of Safety Net and
election costs and it meets the county legislature’s Green Fleet
goal three years ahead of schedule.
