MONTICELLO – With no additional debate or discussion, during a three-minute special meeting, the Sullivan County Legislature adopted the 2017 budget on Thursday.
The tax levy will be 4.65 percent, which is a bit lower than what County Manager Joshua Potosek proposed.   He is still satisfied with the budget.
Potosek said the legislature made some adjustments that address lingering issues, including management salary inequities.
“We need to do more, then do a further study to figure out how to make everything equitable, but I think they’ve made their best attempt at trying to address some of the glaring things that they saw,” Potosek said.
Finance Committee Chairman Scott Samuelson was also pleased with the final result.
The budget I think worked out really, really well this year,” Samuelson said, speaking to the legislature and top finance officials.  “You did a great job.  It felt like a good budget when we got it; nice and solid.  Congratulations to my colleagues in reviewing it and making some changes.  I think it’s a good solid budget.  I think we should be proud of it.”
The vote to adopt the budget was unanimous.
