POUGHKEEPSIE – A 49-year-old
Albany man is in custody following an attempted bank robbery at mid-afternoon
on Friday in Poughkeepsie.
City Police said Anthony Elting walked into the Riverside Bank at 11 Garden
Street and passed a note to a teller, saying, “We have one of our
loved ones in the trunk of our car. If you don’t give us $10,000
you will never seek them alive again.”
The note also said, “We have a police radio and will hear when
the alarm goes out, so make it $8,000 and three minutes before you press
the alarm.”
The teller did not give Elting any money and he left the bank.
The police were called and a description was given out. He was spotted
a block and a half away. The note was found on him.
He was charged with attempted robbery and attempted grand larceny, both
as felonies.
