KINGSTON – A parking citation
amnesty period from December 15 through December 30 for persons with parking
tickets issued before December 1 and who owe a late penalty will have
that penalty waived if the citation is paid in person at Kingston City
Hall.

Mayor Steven Noble hopes the late penalty waiver will prompt people to
come in and pay their original tickets and “start off 2017 with
a clean slate.”

Noble is modeling the initiative after other “Food for Fines”
programs where participants are asked to bring in non-perishable food
items to be distributed to local food pantries this winter.

“I believe this is an excellent opportunity for individuals to settle
these lingering citations at a lower cost and, if they so choose, help
their fellow neighbors,” he said.

Tickets must be paid on-site at City Hall, 320 Broadway in the city comptroller’s
office on the main floor. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will be closed on December 23 and 26 in observance
of the Christmas holiday.

Recommended items to bring in include canned tuna or chicken, canned fruit
in water or juice, beans, soups, peanut butter, jelly, olive or canola
oil, canned vegetables, bottles of 100 percent juice, cereal, oatmeal,
rice, pasta, pasta sauce in a can, granola bars, pancake mix, nuts, dried
fruit, and spices.
