BREWSTER – Classes at the Henry Wells Middle School in Brewster resume today following two days of being shut down as a result of a massive power outage caused by the failure of a main electrical line outside the school on Route 312 and Farm-to-Market Road in Southeast.
Superintendent Valerie Henning-Piedmonte said a temporary generator was brought to the site Thursday that connected the school’s critical infrastructure. “All systems are operational and functional including the school’s phone, Internet, alarm, security cameras, heat, water and lighting,” said the superintendent. “Repairs will continue Friday and over the weekend to complete the permanent restoration.”
Due to the location of the repairs, drop-off and pick-up locations for students have been temporarily changed. Parents dropping off their children before 7:36 a.m. are requested to do so at the C.V. Starr School main entrance on Farm-to-Market Road. Pick-up at dismissal will take place at the same location.
Henning-Piedmonte thanked the school community for its “patience, cooperation and assistance during this unforeseen disruption.”
