POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess
County Industrial Development Agency granted a 30-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes
(PILOT) plan along with sales tax exemptions on building materials and
mortgage filing fees for the Cricket Valley Energy Center to be constructed
in Dover Plains.
The $1.5 billion natural gas-fired power plant would generate 1,177 megawatts of electricity, said IDA Executive Director Sarah Lee.
“It is an affiliate of Advanced Power Services, a leading energy development company based in Boston, Massachusetts,” Lee said on Thursday. “Advanced Power has a proven track record of developing more than 15,000 megawatts of power generation projects around the world.”
A typical PILOT is for 10 years, but Lee said local government and school officials supported the 30-year plan. In Orange County, the Legoland project has also been proposed for a 30-year PILOT through that county’s IDA.
