Hunters charged with illegal deer and bear shootings in Sullivan County

LIBERTY – Four teams of State Police and state Environmental Conservation
Police officers responded to 45 complaint investigations in Sullivan County
during the four-day opening weekend of big game hunting season on November
19 – 22.

The officers investigated and initiated criminal actions involving the
taking of 12 illegal deer and three illegal bear.

Hunting with the aid of pre-established bait continues to be the most
common violation as 25 hunters were issued summonses for hunting deer
with the aid of pre-established bait, and five were issued summonses for
hunting bear with the aid of pre-established bait.

A total of 78 summonses, 18 of which were misdemeanor offenses, were issued
for violations of environmental conservation law as well as one penal
law arrest for criminal possession of a weapon.

The four “green-gray” patrols in the Liberty, Roscoe, Wurtsboro
and Narrowsburg areas, are held at the beginning of big game hunting season
each year.
