WHITE PLAINS – Reclaim New York has filed Article 78 proceedings against a handful of Hudson Valley local government entities that denied basic freedom of information law requests for expenditure information which they are legally required to maintain and make public.
Organization Executive Director Brandon Muir filed the suits in Westchester County Supreme Court in White Plains.
“Out of the 246 FOIL requests we sent for the fiscal year 2014 checkbook, 203 are completed, but there were some that weren’t and in some cases local government entities either denied our requests or just ignored us completely,” Muir said. On Tuesday, Reclaim New York filed lawsuits in an effort to have them turn over those records.
Those entities sued include the Beacon City School District, Peekskill City School District, Village of Spring Valley, Town of Deerpark and Chester Union Free School District.
Muir said the City of Poughkeepsie was also on the list of delinquent reporters, but on Monday, officials submitted the information Reclaim New York requested.
