MONTICELLO – A Liberty man was sentenced to 7 ½ years in state prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision for the sexual abuse of two girls.
Dennis Gonzalez, 55, pled guilty to criminal sexual act and sexual abuse, both as felonies. He admitted to engaging in oral sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl in the fall of 2014 and sexually touching a 10-year-old girl in the fall of 2013 at a home in Liberty.
Following a request for the maximum sentence of 7 ½ years by Executive Assistant DA Julie Mohl, Supreme Court Justice Stephan Schick sentenced Gonzalez to the maximum prison term.
Gonzalez had been arrested after an investigation by the Family Violence Response Team, comprised of investigators from the State Police, Sullivan DA’s Office and child protective services workers from the county’s Department of Family Services.
“This team works very hard to protect our children in Sullivan County and has been very successful in bringing justice to those who abuse children,” Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell said.
Gonzalez was ordered to register as a sex offender and permanent orders of protection were grant.
