GOSHEN – The Ways and Means Committee of the Orange County Legislature has added $250,000 to the county executive’s proposed $735 million spending plan for next year.
Included in the new money is $75,000 for community cultural diversity resolution, said committee Chairman Leigh Benton.
“Trying to get better cooperation and communication so that we expend less in litigation expenses every year. Right now we are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars when possibly if we had better communication skills as well as cooperation among the elected officials, maybe we can solve problems before they end up in court,” said Benton.
Committee members also added $60,000 for homeless warming shelters, $15,000 for the Orange County library system, and $100,000 to increase the rate of indigent burials.
The full county legislature must approve the expenditures next week.
