TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A hamlet of Wallkill man was arrested on Monday following an investigation into the theft of fundraising candy from the Leptondale Elementary School in the Town of Newburgh.
Vincent Gaudio, 34, was in the school after hours where he brought a young relative for football practice and when left alone in the school lobby and while unaware he was being recorded on school surveillance, he made three separate trips, stealing 28 boxes of fundraising candy valued at $1,680.  The candy was being sold by the school’s music department to finance a field trip for the school’s band and chorus students. It was unknown if the trip would be cancelled or rescheduled.
At the time of his arrest, Gaudio was still in possession of some of the candy, which was turned back over to the school.
