Yellen: “… great trajectory …”

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – After four months of working with students, faculty and honing his brand of leadership as Marist College’s newest president, Dr. David Yellen was formally installed over the weekend.
Yellen is the fourth Marist College president since 1979, succeeding former president Dr. Dennis Murray.
Yellen said his plans for the school include more grad students, more distance learning and increasing diversity.
“We’ve been on a great trajectory for a long time; so, I have the luxury of taking some time to formulate strategic plans, to pick the new areas where we’re going to expand and solidify our base,” said Yellen.
Freshman student Shannon Gilhuly said Yellen is “really serious” about the mission at the school.
“He emailed the community recently about Diwali, which is a celebration of lights, and he just informed the [student] community in such an eloquent way about other people’s cultures and is really a great component,” said Gilhuly. “He’s bringing the community together and making sure everyone is aware of everyone else and it’s a lot about unity.”
Yellen said it’s still too early in his tenure to have an established plan
for his future implementations, but intends to release his five-year plan
by 2017.
