NEWBURGH – The man wanted in connect with the shooting deaths of
two young women in Newburgh at a Halloween party has been arrested.

Newburgh Police Chief Daniel Cameron said that Nija Johnson, 17, of Newburgh
was taken into custody outside New York State at 3 p.m. on Friday.

He would not say where and said Johnson was not expected to be returned
to New York for at least several days
.
Johnson is accused of opening fire at the private party at a commercial
business space at 119 Broadway in Newburgh. Killed were Tabitha Cruz,
20, and 18-year-old Omani Free, both of Newburgh. Five other people were
wounded by gunfire.
Cameron said he would release further details on Monday.
