WAWAYANDA – The state Department
of Environmental Conservation has agreed to fund the development of an
aquatic plant management plan for Ridgebury Lake in Wawayanda, Assemblyman
James Skoufis and Senator John Bonacic announced Thursday.
The lake has been overrun with Eurasian milfoil, an invasive species.
Skoufis said the DEC has agreed to put up the money to revitalize the ecosystem. Bonacic said he is pleased that the DEC “has stepped forward and agreed to work with the Town of Wawayanda to address the issues related to Ridgebury Lake.”
Town Supervisor John Razzano said he hopes the DEC remains “committed to fund a long term solution to correct the problem they created in the lake.”
The development of a management plan for the lake will involve local input as well as technical expertise from the DEC.
