ELLENVILLE – The current Ellenville Regional Hospital building is 50 years old and does not meet the needs and requirements of today’s healthcare, so officials have begun planning to construct a new 80,000 square foot building at the same location as the current building. That would be roughly 25percent larger than the current structure.
Hospital President Steven Kelley estimates it will cost between $40 million and $50 million to build and while it would contain the same 25 in-patient beds, out-patient services and space to accommodate them would be greatly expanded from their current levels.  He said they will plan a strategy to raise the necessary funding.
“We will certainly be reaching out to our elected officials, the state health department, all of the different foundations in the area and see what kind of help we can get, as well as our employees as well as our other employees and other community citizens and organizations to see what we can do,” Kelley said.
Ellenville Regional is one of the few hospitals in the greater region that remains independent. Its service area includes the Ellenville-Wawarsing area of Ulster County as well as portions of Sullivan and Orange counties.
