BEACON – The more than 1,400 street lights in Beacon will be converted to LEDs in the next several weeks.
The new fixtures will improve lighting conditions and save taxpayer money, but Mayor Randy Casale said there is more to the equation.
“I never guarantee you are going to save money forever because you don’t know where the markets are going to go and going to change, but what I do guarantee, it’s the right thing to do,” the mayor said. “Short term, we are saving some good money that we know of right now and hopefully we will continue to save money, but the biggest thing is we are reducing the carbon footprint, because the amount of power to power these lights is a lot less than to power these lights.”
Casale estimated that next year with the new lights, Beacon should save $128,000.
