Unemployment continues its decline in the Valley

ALBANY – Columbia County had the lowest unemployment rate in the
state in September at 3.7 percent. Columbia was tied with Tompkins County.
Unemployment rose by 0.1 percent from September 2015 to this September,
according to the state Labor Department.
Dutchess County, which ranged 10th in the state, had an unemployment
rate of 4.2 percent, down from 4.4 percent one year earlier.

Greene County, at 4.7 percent joblessness, was ranked 29th in the state,
down from 5.1 percent in September 2015.

Orange County, with 4.4 percent joblessness, was ranked17th in the state,
declined by 0.1 percent.

Putnam County fell from 4.3 percent in September 2015 to 4.1 this September
to be ranked fifth in the state.

With an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent in September, Rockland County,
which dropped 0.2 percent from last year, was ranked 13th.
Sullivan County dropped 0.3 percent in September to 4.7 percent unemployment
to be ranked 29th in the state.

Ulster County, at 4.4 percent unemployment in September, fell from 4.6
percent one year earlier and was ranked 17th in the state.

Westchester County, at 4.4 percent joblessness in September, dropped 0.1
percent and was ranked 17th along with Orange and Ulster counties.

Region-wide in the Hudson Valley in September, unemployment was at 4.3
percent, the lowest September since 2007.
