Consignment business owner sentenced for failing to pay state taxes

WHITE PLAINS – A Katonah man was sentenced to five years of probation after previously pleading guilty to felony repeated failure to file personal income tax returns.
The tax fraud by Barry Shevit, 68, came to light during an investigation by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office into Shevit’s consignment business.
In 2011, there was a tax liability of $10,153. In 2012, there was a tax liability of $3,112, and in 2013, there was a tax liability of $6,281.  The total amount of the unpaid tax liability, including prior tax years, is approximately $28,862.
Shevit is required to complete restitution by the end of his probation.
