Greene County man charged with illegal weapons possession

CATSKILL – An Athens man has been charged with criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana after he allegedly fired shots into a wooded area near a residence in Athens.
State Police investigation found that Steven Parente, 50, was firing the weapon and was in possession of a firearm and shotgun in violation of a court order to surrender the firearms.  He was also found in possession of a metal knuckle switchblade knife and a small amount of marijuana.
Parente was sent to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
