PORT JERVIS – Port Jervis Mayor Kelly Decker broke ranks with his fellow Democrats and endorsed incumbent Republican State Assemblyman Karl Brabenec.
Decker said his support of the former Deerpark town supervisor boils down to his local roots.
“The person who is running against him does not live in our community,” Decker said. “Quite frankly, I have never been introduced to him and I don’t believe his interests are in our community.”
Aron Wieder, the majority leader of the Rockland County Legislature, is the Democratic candidate for the 98th District seat next month.
The district represents portions of Orange and Rockland counties.
