State trooper from Dutchess County dies from illness from WTC attack

ALBANY – A state trooper from Dutchess County died from an illness stemming from his assignment at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, State Police Superintendent George Beach II announced.
Investigator Paul Steuwer passed away on October 5.
Steuwer joined the State Police on October 1, 1990 and served for 26 years. He served as a trooper in Troop K east of the Hudson River until his promotion to investigator in 2004. He was promoted to the permanent rank of sergeant in 2005, staying in his most recent assignment in Troop NYC for the New York City Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Steuwer is survived by his wife, their children and his parents.
