Plant owners, environmentals, have very different views
on how safe Indian Point is

BUCHANAN – The Hudson River Sloop Clearwater environmental organization’s
environmental director says last week’s leak of 600 gallons of oil
into a drainage canal at Indian Point is but the latest problem in what
she calls “an aging, failing and very dangerous” nuclear power
plant.
Manna Jo Greene said the problems at the plant seem to occur on a regular basis and that is further reason why they should not be granted licenses to continue operation.
“This leak follows a tritium leak and transformer fires and degraded bolts inside the reactor core; a whole litany of problems that Indian Point units two and three have been experiencing on a regular basis now,” Greene said.
Indian Point officials say they are spending a small fortune to keep the power plant operating safely and efficiently.
