Clearwater on the Hudson

BEACON – The Sloop Clearwater was launched in 1969 meaning in 2019, it will be 50 years old.
The Clearwater organization is excited and will be planning to celebrate the milestone, said Interim Executive Director David Conover.
“I see the Clearwater as the Hudson River’s tall ship,” Conover said. “Not too many rivers have their own historic tall ship, especially one that was instrumental in helping the ecological recovery of that river, and of course, the Clearwater is a big part of Pete Seeger’s environmental legacy, so that makes it pretty special and I think the fact that we have a tall ship like that in the Hudson River is amazing and I think people appreciate that. It’s really as big part of the identity of the Hudson River.”
The sloop underwent a major rebuild earlier this year as required by the Coast Guard. It is back sailing on the river.
