WHITE PLAINS –A 35-year-old Elmsford man pled guilty Monday in
Westchester County Court in the shooting of a retired Greenburgh police
officer.

At about 3:45 p.m. on July 13, 2015, the victim was mowing his lawn when
he spotted a car in the driveway of a home across the street, which he
knew to be vacant, located a 5 Payne Road in Elmsford.

The victim, along with his son, a current Greenburgh police officer, went
over to investigate. That is when two men, one of whom was Taqiy Walton
of Elmsford, emerged from the house. The victim and his son began to inquire
why they were there with both suspects becoming belligerent to the victim
and his son.

As the two victims turned to leave, Walton fired a semi-automatic pistol
toward them, striking the retired officer twice, once in the torso and
once in the arm.

Both suspects then drove away.

The victim’s son was able to take down the license plate of the
vehicle in which the men fled.

They were apprehended on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers. The co-defendant
pled guilty to felony burglary in June.

Walton faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced next January.
