GOSHEN – A Cuddebackville man pled guilty in Orange County Court on Friday to a felony of operating as a major drug dealer.
Anthony Spagnola, 56, admitted in County Court before Judge Robert Freehill that he was the director of a controlled substance organization that distributed cocaine through the county and surrounding areas, and that he had at least four people working under him, distributed drugs.
The proceeds collected from the cocaine sales was over $75,000 in one year, said District Attorney David Hoovler, whose office will recommend a sentence of 10 years in state prison when Spagnola is sentenced on November 21.
Spagnola was one of more than 20 people arrested on April 28 when authorities executed search warrants throughout Orange and surrounding counties in New York and Sussex County, New Jersey.
“Narcotics is destroying the fabric of our society and killing our residents and must be fought at every level,” said Hoovler. “It is only through coordinated law enforcement actions such as ‘Operation Chopper’ that law enforcement is able to pursue those higher level drug dealers and craftier offenders who attempt to insulate themselves from criminal liability by dealing drugs through intermediaries.”
