Miller – still doing double duty

GOSHEN – Orange County Government is headed to the abolishment of one of its commissioners with the merged leadership of the Social Services and Mental Health departments.
Mental Health Commissioner Darcie Miller has been acting Social Services commissioner as well for many months, but if approved by the full legislature as it is expected to do, she would assume both jobs on a permanent basis, said Health and Mental Health Committee Chairman Michael Anagnostakis following Tuesday’s session.
“It is a bit of a cost savings in that you don’t have two commissioners, but better results because the one commissioner really guide things because both departments kind of work hand in hand and there was always kind of a wall between them where they didn’t know exactly what was going on,” Anagnostakis said. “With one commissioner overseeing two departments, you get better results.”
The full county legislature must approve the proposal, which has been discussed for several months.
