GOSHEN – An Orange County grand jury indicted a Middletown man on murder charges in connection with the death of his seven-week-old son.
The indictment alleges that on August 7, Michael Heil, 26, recklessly engaged in conduct that created a grave risk of serious physical injury or death to the infant, Zachary Heil, resulting in his death.
“There can be no more innocent a victim that an infant,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said on Tuesday.   “It is entirely a tragedy, but the allegations in the indictment allege that he was the perpetrator in this particular matter.”
Other charges in the indictment include two counts of manslaughter.
Heil was arrested by Middletown City Police on September 13 and is in the Orange County Jail without bail.
