ALBANY – The State of New York ranks fourth among the 10 least tax-friendly states in the nation, according to the Kiplinger organization, and State Senator John Bonacic (R, Mt. Hope) said while that is not acceptable, it is better than previous year rankings, which were even lower.
The conservative-leaning Republican, who represents portions of the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills, said New York’s liberal bent is the cause.
“We are in a state that leans toward progressive philosophy,” Bonacic said. You have a Democratic governor, you have a very heavy Democratic Assembly and the progressive philosophy is to move to socialism, more regulation, and more taxes.”
To the governor’s credit, Bonacic said working with him this past year, New York has the lowest tax rate in 70 years.
According to Kiplinger, California is the least tax-friendly state, followed by Hawaii, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, Maine, Vermont, Illinois and Rhode Island.
The 10 most tax-friendly states are Wyoming, Alaska, Florida, Nevada, Arizona, Louisiana, South Carolina, South Dakota, Mississippi and Delaware.
