KINGSTON – A Red Hook man is under arrest following an incident that began in the City of Newburgh.
At about 9:45 p.m. on Friday, September 16, State Police in Montgomery alerted the Ulster Sheriff’s Office that they were looking for a driver who fled from troopers in the City of Newburgh.  Apparently, the suspect, later identified as Richard Lutz, 43, of Red Hook, had resisted arrest, was struck with a Taser, but escaped in the vehicle.
At about 10:20 p.m., Ulster deputies on patrol in Port Ewen spotted the vehicle traveling north on Route 9W. They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to do so until it ran into a yard and struck some small trees.
Lutz fled on foot into a wooded area and was located by a Town of Ulster Police K-9.  He continued to fight and resist arrest, but was subdued and taken into custody.
Lutz was charged by Ulster deputies with reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, reckless driving and 32 traffic violations.  He is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
Additional charges are expected to be lodged in Orange County.
Deputies were assisted by Ulster and Saugerties Town Police departments and State Police.
