HOLLYWOOD – Grace VanderWaal, of Suffern, is only 12 but topped
a talented field of mostly adults in NBC’s America’s Got Talent.
The ukulele-strumming singer who performs her own original songs was
declared the winner during a live network telecast Wednesday night, based
on a national popular vote. She is the youngest winner in the show’s
11-year history. VanderWaal, who took up music at a very young age but didn’t buy her
uke until a year ago, now gets a gig in Las Vegas.
She also wins $1 million, paid in a 40-year annuity, or she can take
a smaller lump sum.
