SUNY Board appoints interim SCCC president

LOCH SHELDRAKE – The SUNY Board Wednesday appointed John “Jay”
Quaintance as the interim president of Sullivan County Community College.

He has been serving as the officer-in-charge of the Loch Sheldrake school
since July 28.

Prior to joining the campus, he was assistant secretary for education
to Governor Cuomo for some two years and assistant vice chancellor for
community colleges as well as assistant vice chancellor and assistant
provost for community college policy and programming at SUNY.

Quaintance has a long history with community colleges, first with assignments
in the field of student services, where he served as an instructor in
Upward Bound and then as the director of TRIO Student Support Services.

He has also worked as an instructor, department chair, and assistant dean
of academic affairs at the community college level.
