BEACON – The 37 passengers onboard the sloop Clearwater had to be ferried back to the dock when the vessel’s engine conked out on Monday.
Crew dropped anchor off Yonkers and called for assistance from the Westchester County Police and Palisades Parkway Police; both agencies transported the passengers to shore.
By Tuesday, the problem with the engine’s alternator was repaired and the Coast Guard cleared the sloop to sail with passengers with the fall sailing schedule resuming.
Captain Aleythea Dolstad said the safety of the passengers was never in danger.
“The kids sang songs and played games as they waited to be ferried back to the dock,” said Interim Executive Director Dave Conover.
