MOUNT HOPE – A pedestrian was struck and killed near Otisville by a New Jersey Transit commuter train Monday evening. The incident occurred about 7 p.m. near Shoddy Hollow Road and Carboy Road in Mount Hope, abut a half-mile east of the Otisville station.
New Jersey Transit operates the Metro-North service on the West Side of the Hudson River.  A spokeswoman said the engineer on Transit Train #55 reported seeing an adult man step onto the tracks and make no effort to get off them as he sounded the train horn. The engineer slammed on the brakes in an effort to avoid hitting the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene near the Otisville station.
The train departed Hoboken at 5:15 p.m. and was due in Port Jervis at 7:23 p.m.
None of the 18 passengers and crew onboard was injured.
MTA Police was the lead investigating agency.
