WASHINGTON – There are roughly 1,000 dead zones of cell phone service in the Hudson Valley and US Senator Charles Schumer would like the wireless carriers to fix them.
Last winter, the senator asked New Yorkers to report dead zones in their areas and the greatest number reported – 970 – were in the Hudson Valley region.  He has urged the carriers to come up with solutions to meet the needs of their communities.
“In addition to communicating, wireless services support many GPS products that are essential to residents and tourists who are looking to explore the area and a lack of wireless coverage could make tourists reluctant to travel in an area,” Schumer said. “Shop owners and businesses across New York reported experiencing dropped calls when using wireless service when conducting business and that affects their ability to succeed.”
On top of all of that, Schumer said if someone has an accident of some sort and cannot call for aid because there is no service, their problem could get worse.
The senator hopes when the carriers are advised of their dropped ones, they will correct the problem.
