NEW PALTZ – Police in New Paltz arrested a New Windsor man who they believe is the New Paltz rapist.
Kevin Guerrero, 20, was arrested and charged late Wednesday afternoon with one count of rape and one count of burglary, both as felonies. He was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
New Paltz Police investigated an early morning attack on September 4 where a man entered an apartment and sexually assaulted the female resident who was asleep. She was able to fend him off and provided the police with a description of her attacker.  Police then learned of two other incidents of a man forcing entry into nearby apartments. In both of those incidents, he encountered the residents before any further crime could be committed. The description provided by those two women matched that of the initial victim.
Guerrero was identified as a suspect through investigative efforts of New Paltz Police and SUNY New Paltz Police. He was located at his place of employment and taken into custody.
At this time the investigation shows Guerrero was unknown to his victims.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed, police said.
New Paltz Police were assisted by SUNY officers and State Police.
