PATTERSON – It took an hour and a half, but Patterson firefighters were able to rescue a 1,000 pound horse from a drainage ditch it fell into on Monday.
The 30-year-old horse, named Nicholas, had become wedged on his side in the four-foot deep trench.
Using a heavy-duty rescue truck and rigging, crews were able to lift the animal from the ditch.
Nicholas was a little wobbly on his feet initially when he got back on solid ground, but he was checked out by a local veterinarian and assisted on the walk back to his stable.
