MONTICELLO – A Loch Sheldrake man was sentenced on Tuesday to 10 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision by Sullivan county Court Judge Frank LaBuda for his role in the burglary of a Fallsburg home and possession of a handgun stolen from that residence.
Adam Awny, 32, pled guilty to burglary and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. He admitted to breaking into the home on Aster Road in the Town of Fallsburg on February 1 of this year, and stealing property, including jewelry, a 40 caliber handgun and ammunition for the weapon.
District Attorney James Farrell said the crime was solved when Town of Fallsburg Police detectives, who were investigating the burglary, saw Awny walking near Woodland Townhouses with a Kindle in his hands. Two Kindles had also been stolen from the home and further investigation led to the arrest of Awny and another man, Philip Bellows, and the recovery of the gun and jewelry.
Bellows was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the burglary.
