30-year-old Nicholas is rescued from a drainage ditch

PATTERSON – It took an hour-and-a-half, but Patterson firefighters
were able to rescue a 1,000 pound horse from a drainage ditch it fell
into on Monday.

Nicholas, a 30-year-old horse, had become wedged on his side in the four-foot
deep trench.

Using a heavy-duty rescue truck and rigging, crews were able to lift the
animal from the ditch.

Nicholas was a little wobbly on his feet initially when he got back on
solid ground, but he was checked out by a local veterinarian and assisted
on the walk back to his stable.
