NEWBURGH – A New Windsor man is the latest victim of the violence
in Newburgh. Keyshan Gayle, 18, who graduated last spring from Newburgh
Free Academy, was shot in the back in the area of Fullerton Avenue and
Third Street at 11:15 Tuesday night.
Gayle was transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Newburgh campus where he was pronounced dead. He is the fourth murder victim this year in the city.
The State Police Major Crimes Unit and Orange County District Attorney’s Office are assisting city police in the investigation.
Anyone with information is urged to call Newburgh City Police at 845-561-3131 or the police tips hotline at 845-569-7555.
Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney said he is “absolutely horrified that another promising young man has been taken from us too soon.” Maloney said Gayle was “poised to open the next chapter of his young life – but he has been robbed of his future.”
Maloney said he is pushing for federal funds so that Newburgh can purchase Shot Spotter technology that would enable the police to know immediately after a shooting where it occurred.
