BEAR MOUNTAIN – Two 16-year-old Hasidic boys, part of a group from
a summer camp in the Ulster County hamlet of Highland, are missing on
Bear Mountain after they decided to take a shortcut down the mountain
and broke away from a group of two dozen boys on a hiking trip Thursday.
Volunteers from the Hasidic community turned out in large numbers to search for the two Brooklyn residents. State Police would not let them into the woods until daylight Friday, but police did a grid search for the boys through the overnight hours.
