MONSEY – One of two sisters who were walking across Route 59 in
the area of Augusta Drive in Monsey Wednesday evening was struck by a
passing motorist and died from her injuries on Thursday morning.
Ramapo Police said Shiendy Mashinsky, 18, was still walking across Route
59 while her sister had already reached the other side when a 2009 Toyota
Sienna, driven by Sholom Lenchitz of Monsey struck the woman causing serious
injuries to her head and body, police said. She was transported to Westchester
Medical Center where she died Thursday morning.
At the time of the incident, Lenchitz had his six-year-son with him.
The accident remains under investigation. At this time no criminal charges
pending police said.
