New Paltz man charged with violating order of protection 15 minutes after issued

NEW PALTZ – A New Paltz man was arrested for allegedly violating an order of protection just 15 minutes after the stay away order was issued against him in New Paltz Justice Court.
Carlos Canela, 21, had been involved in a physical domestic dispute at his home with a female victim. He allegedly struck her several times and held her down restraining her from leaving.
After Canela was arraigned and the order of protection was issued for him to stay away from the victim, police said he went back to the residence and attempted to make contact with her by banging on the rear window wanting to speak to the victim. He was located by police and taken into custody by New Paltz Police who charged himwith felony aggravated family offense and misdemeanors of unlawful imprisonment, attempted assault and criminal contempt.
Canela is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond.
