HUDSON – Columbia County is fast becoming the hot-spot for tourists visiting the Hudson Valley. The county had the largest increase in tourism spending – 5.7 percent – of all six counties in the region last year, according to the latest Tourism Economics’ report.
Tourists spend over $130 million in Columbia County yearly and tax revenues
generated by tourists grew by 6.8 percent.
Columbia Tourism Director Annie Cooper said there are a number of draws bringing people to the county, most recently artesian beverage makers.
“Of course we have the world renowned Olana State Historic Site, the home of the Hudson River School artist Frederick Church,” she said. “That is one of our key draws as is the City of Hudson, which is very hot itself.”
Cooper said visitors to Columbia County come from the New York metropolitan area, as well as the Capital District, New England, Canada and Europe.
