NANUET – Two state senators released what they are calling a “bombshell report” on Thursday showing a 93 percent instance of Pokémon GO characters showing up at sex offender residences in Rockland and Westchester counties.
Senator Jeffrey Klein (D, Westchester-Bronx) is sponsoring new legislation to protect children from that and other augmented reality games.
Senator David Carlucci (D, Rockland) is cosponsoring the bill.
“First, it would prevent sex offenders from playing games like Pokémon GO and second, making sure that the creators of these games take into consideration the sex offender registry,” Carlucci said. “We have to make sure that as our children are playing augmented reality games that we are not sending them down a dangerous path.”
Keeping the laws in line with the times is “extremely important” to protect our children, he said.
