GOSHEN – The two-mile stretch of Route 207, a state road that runs
through the heart of the Village of Goshen, has just completed a $2.4
million make over with new pavement, crosswalks, and curbs. Orange County
Chamber of Commerce President Lynne Cione said the crosswalks were the
icing on the cake.”

The money for the project was secured by State Assemblyman James Skoufis.
The work that took about a year was completed at night to avoid traffic
problems.

As Main Street, the village deserved a street that is properly maintained,
Skoufis said. The upgrades make the road that much safer and also boost
business downtown, he said.

Regional State Transportation Department Director Todd Westhuis said the
news roadway is not just better for vehicle traffic, but is also pedestrian-friendly
with 32 new ADA compliant sidewalk ramps and 19 new crosswalks.

Village Mayor Kyle Roddey called the project “critical” for
the community. “We want Goshen to be welcoming, and it is.”

Goshen Town Supervisor Doug Bloomfield, who grew up in the village, said
the project “is one of the nicest things” that has been accomplished
since he took office.

Orange County Legislator Philip Canterino said the entire project was
“painless for the residents of Goshen,” but also said getting
rid of the potholes, “has saved me one front end alignment a year,
which translates into money for Phil Canterino.”
