BEACON – Members of the Beacon City Council and some residents of the city says the music emanating from the restaurants across the mile-wide Hudson River on the Newburgh city waterfront is too loud and often disturbing. They would like the volume lowered.
Beacon Councilman Ali Mohammad said the city administration has reached out to Newburgh City Hall and has yet to get a return call.
Mohammad said some city residents have gone so far as to suggest the city take legal action against the Newburgh riverfront businesses.
Beacon Councilwoman Pam Wetherbee suggested they report the loud music to the state ABC Board.
But, Mayor Randy Casale said before any formal complaints are filed, his city needs to build a case.
“If our people are complaining, I believe our cops should be going to where the complaints are coming from, the meter should come out and we should document what the meter says and where the noise was coming from so we can build a case,” Casale said.
Beacon Councilman Lee Kyriacou said the music may carry across the river differently depending upon how calm the water is and which way the wind is blowing.
